Yoho National Park is one of four National Parks in the Canadian Rockies. Yoho seems a bit of an odd name but it’s very appropriate. To the Cree people Yoho meant “Awe and Wonder”. That impression remains today as this park is one of North America’s great scenic treasures, rivaling the beauty of Lake Louise or Lake O’Hara.
The Yoho Valley is a beautiful glaciated valley, with remnant glaciers still rimming its rugged mountains. It’s filled with dozens of waterfalls, lush forests, and beautiful alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers in early summer. This scene in the photo is typical of many you’ll see going on a hike on its sub-alpine trails.
The famous Burgess Shale formation lies just a few miles from where this photo was taken. A fascinating place of profound geologic importance, it can only be approached by tourists when part of special geologist or Warden guided tours.
