I lived in Spokane for almost seven years. I love the region, a beautiful forested hilly area between the great mountains of the Cascades to the West and the Rockies to the East. The Spokane River runs through the heart of the city, but the area around the Lower Spokane River (north and west of downtown) is largely undeveloped. Here you’ll find a large nature preserve, Riverside State Park, and a number of unusual basalt rock formations, the best of these being the Bowl and Pitcher.
The Spokane River roars through this region and it’s popular with whitewater rafters. A swinging pedestrian bridge crosses the River at Bowl and Pitcher, from which this photo was snapped, and leads to a great hiking trails.
