Whales are truly magnificent and fascinating creatures. The largest living animals on the planet, yet very gentle. It’s always a thrill for me to see them on my travels.
Gray whales live a migratory life wintering in the warm shallow lagoons off Mexico’s Baja Peninsula (where they give birth and mate), and spending summers feasting on plankton off Alaska’s coast. If you visit those Pacific lagoons known to be their winter homes, your chances of seeing gray whales up close is excellent.
The above photo shows a gray whale mother and her calf that spend the better part of a half hour interacting with us by our boat. I’ve shared that experience elsewhere on this website and you can read and see more here if you want to. Suffice it to say it was one of the most remarkable experiences of my life.
