Cape Grace Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa

In my many years of traveling I’ve stayed in a variety of accommodations ranging from primitive tents to huts to luxury resorts.  Never have I had a better stay than in Cape Town’s wonderful Cape Grace Hotel.

We arrived in Cape Town after a long flight extremely tired and jet lagged, having flown New York to Johannesburg then on to Cape Town.   We were shuttled mid-afternoon to the Cape Grace which immediately made us feel welcome and like we were coming home.  The staff were unusually friendly, warm and helpful.  Every single employee we met knew us by name — it’s quite remarkable really how they could do that.  The place is designed with a simple elegance but with comfort and function being of foremost importance.  Our room was spacious but beyond that everything seemed to be in the just right place.  A very nice touch was a small balcony whose door we could open to enjoy the fresh breeze or take in the great views of the harbor and Table Mountain; a uniquely Cape Town setting.

This the hotel offers many wonderful small conveniences to enhance your stay, like a library, free port or sherry at night (served in the library), free shoeshine, free local limo, etc. etc.   I’ve not been cared for this well since I was a child.

Our room was a bread and breakfast rate, and breakfast was of the finest quality and variety.  Everything was delicious and perfect, as we’d quickly come to expect from the Cape Grace by then.  I wish we’d had dinner here instead of at the V&A waterfront.  The hotel is definitely not a budget accommodation, but we felt it was worth every penny we’d paid.

Thank you, Cape Grace, for a wonderful and memorable visit.  If my travels bring me back to Cape Town, and hopefully they will someday, I’ll be sure to visit again.  And if you’re in the neighborhood and want to pamper yourself, I can’t recommend the Cape Grace highly enough.

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
