Chartres is a great day-trip destination for those visiting Paris. An hour’s train ride from the City of Lights, Chartres’ main highlight is its magnificent cathedral (itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The inner part of the city retains a medieval character and it’s extremely pleasant to spend a few hours strolling through the historic core.
This photo was taken in Chartres on a cloudy, misty day along the Eure River. The buildings on either side are old, many of half-timbered construction. I love the tranquil nature of the setting, how the buildings hug the water and the rounded stone bridge over the river. Chartres’ great cathedral is seen on a rise in the background.
