Where Gumbo was #7.5: Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Lake Couer d
As recognized by PortMoresby and correctly pinpointed by Worker Bee, Gumbo was at Lake Coeur d’Alene in the Idaho panhandle, just outside the small city of Coeur d’Alene.

He was enjoying this whimsical statue of “Leopold the Photographer”, by David Clemons,  The statue sits near Higgens Point, adjoining the I-90 freeway and the Centennial Trail (which connects Spokane with Coeur d’Alene and is a very popular cycling and roller-blading trail).

The statue highlights a generic late 19th century photographer nicknamed “Leopold”, his camera poised to capture the beautiful lake year round.  This time of year, however, Leopold is trying to photograph the migration of bald eagles to Wolf Lodge Bay where they feast on the lake’s kokanee salmon.  We’ve mentioned this migration before right here on this website.

In the summer the lake is very popular with boaters, swimmers, kayakers and water-skiers.
