We all know Rome is a colorful place. On Christmas Eve, spent walking all around the city, I came along the Via dei Fori Imperiali past Palatine Hill toward the Colosseum and couldn’t help but be particularly struck by this fabulous display of fruit and chestnuts roasting on a winter’s day. An especially welcome sight in a city famous for it’s sights.
While preparing this post I went onto Google Streetview to make sure I had the location just right. And there it was, Frutta Fresca, just where it should be. My photo, however, is better. I guess standing still has it’s advantages. But do have a look to see it in context.
I love walking through markets – the smells, the colours and the rare fruits that don’t make it to the Supermarkets!
And sometimes the samples of local cheese !
I could spend all day there.
No market here, just this free-standing kiosk on the sidewalk in the location I described, which is why it’s such a surprise. Nothing else around it except a busy street and landscaping which you can see on the left of the photo. No cheese, just a Colosseum.
