I am traveling to Lisbon in Feb. I was wondering if it was worth a day trip to PORTO (3+ hours each way by train).
What do you think?

A visit to the Desert View Watchtower on the eastern portion of the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. Constructed in the 1930s, it offers magnificent canyon views and a tie to the Native American history of the Canyon.
I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!

I have not done a lot of research yet. Porto is a historic city, which always draws me. It is supposed to be beautiful. Other than hat i am just trying to figure out what to do if I run out of things in Lisbon.
okay, thanks for the info.
Much as I loved my time in Porto…it’s NOT a day trip. Much too much to do there, including evening stroll along the Douro, port-wine tasting across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia and more. I’d say take the advice above and save Porto for another trip.
Of the recommended day trips above, I’d vote for Sintra. It’s an easy trip–trains run about every 30 minutes, more frequently in rush hours, The town itself is interesting, the Moorish Castle up on the mountain and the Pena Palace above that are worth the trip (there’s a bus…you don’t need to be a mountain climber).
Check those two out in our Picture of the Day collections, by the way.

And, while Lisbon’s beauty and hill-climbing may take your breath away–you will NOT run out of things to do! Including a perfectly lovely lunch opportunity on the other side of the river (Gumbo Blog).
