Gumbo had discovered the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, near the older downtown casinos of Las Vegas, but in a newly developed area. The building was opened on May 21, 2010 and is one of the branches of the world famous Cleveland Clinic. The Ruvo Center for Brain Health is dedicated to the development of better treatments for brain diseases, and offers state-of-the-art care for patients affected by neurologic diseases.
Kudos to PortMoresby who was the first to solve the puzzle. WorkerBee and GarryRF also had it figured out.
The building was (as I’m sure many have guessed) designed by famed architect, Frank Gehry. Some have criticized the use of such an abstract design in a building for people suffering with brain diseases, who might have perception problems to begin with, but I like the innovative quality of it. It’s definitely not your usual health care facility! We were here on a Sunday morning when the building was closed, so I didn’t get a chance to look inside, but I would guess it’s equally inovative.
The clinic is near the World Market Center, a home furnishing and gift marketplace that I’ve never visited, so check out the link if you want to learn more. It’s not far from the Freemont Street Experience in the old downtown section. This is a worthwhile Vegas attraction, with a laser-light show every hour during the evening on a long rounded canopy roof with lots of great music (shows last about 5-6 minutes),

I’m a big fan of Frank Gehry’s perspective-bending architecture. And for those also intrigued, there’s an excellent 2005 Sydney Pollack documentary about the man, ‘Sketches of Frank Gehry’, available on Netflix.
