We have gotten to Tuesday and no one has guessed Where Gumbo went this week. So here is the answer:
Gumbo traveled to the New York state town of Hudson, where Frederic Church built a house over looking the Hudson River so that he could paint. The name of the estate is Olana (Find out more HERE). Church was one of the best painters in the Hudson River School. Church was inspired to design the house in a Persian style after returning from a trip to Europe and the Middle East during the late 1860’s. He worked with architect Richard Morris Hunt and Calvert Vaux on designing and building Olana.
Olana is still there and it is worth being part of a long weekend in the Hudson Valley especially during the Fall leaf season.
Well done Jonathan. After your last clue I considered the Hudson River bunch as well as the Ash Can School but could find no reference to this place. It’s quite a house.
This was a hard one interesting church with beautiful paintings
For anyone who’d like a look at Church’s paintings, HERE is a link to a Wikipedia Commons page with many images, including his wonderful painting of Niagara Falls.
