Gallery: Burma, on Inle Lake

The 13 pictures which follow are from a day spent with a friend in a long boat on Inle Lake in central Burma’s Shan State.  We boarded with our boatman on a waterway that leads from Nyaungshwe, about 3 miles from the north end of the lake, and would return later in great haste and pouring rain.  Ominous clouds had begun to form while we were at the far end and by midway back the wind and the rain were in full force as we sped back across the white-capped water.

Next week I’ll continue the story, a visit to the “5 Day” Hill Tribe market at Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda at the south end of Inle Lake, so called because the markets rotate on a 5 day schedule.

Thank you for another look at a place and life that are so different from mine…and that yet reminds me that each of us goes forward each day with the common necessity of living, contributing and contemplating the next day.

Gumbo's Pic of the Day

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
