Located in Harstad, near Tromso in northern Norway, the age of the world`s most northernmost stone church is uncertain but the style of it’s construction suggests that it dates back to the late Middle Ages (1250). It probably replaces several earlier wooden churches built during the period 1000-1100. King Oystein Magnusson claimed that he sanctioned the church to be built in 1114. The church is set in beautiful coastal scenic surroundings and boasts several treasures and a beautiful carefully preserved interior.
