Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, March 25, 2014: Waterton National Park, Alberta

Prince of Wales Hotel, Waterton Lakes

Waterton National Park is situated in the southwestern part of Alberta, close to British Columbia and Montana, and shares a border with Glacier National Park in the United States.  The two parks together form an international Peace Park, are a UNESCO World Heritage site and a World Biosphere Preserve.  This area is a place of incredible natural beauty.

Upper Waterton Lake

One of Canada’s smaller Rocky Mountain parks, Waterton is a very interesting place to visit,  The park is where the rugged Rockies abruptly arise from the rolling grasslands and farmlands of the prairies.   It has a series of large lakes and is popular with boaters and swimmers (though the water never gets very warm)

Brown Bear, Waterton Lakes

The park is a wonderful place to see wild animals, like those above and below. We love visiting this place!

That’s a fine looking building on Photo1 Dr.Y.

I hovered over it and it says Prince Of Wales Hotel .

Is it recently built ? – it appears to be in excellent condition !

DrY is vacationing this week in Cuba, GarryRF, which we know to be one of your favorite hangouts.  He’ll get to you when he has reliable internet connections.

I posted some photos of the great Prince of Wales hotel on my blog last summer which addresses some of your questions. Here’s that link if you’re interested

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
