Lufthansa pilot strike already costs over 75M Euro

Lufthansa says a 3-day walkout by its pilots, which ended Friday after grinding its operations to a standstill, could cost it up to 75 million Euros ($103 million).  The airline had to cancel 3,800 flights during the strike, but with services normalizing over the weekend.

 

The pilot strike focused on pay and early retirement benefits, but in the short term did not lead to a resolution of the pilot’s concerns.   There is a real possibility of future Lufthansa pilot actions and more strikes in the future.  Over a half dozen strikes from various groups of workers have plagued German airlines and airports in the last year hurting the reputation of Germany’s airline industry.
