Golden Bay is located on the north-west coast of Malta, and is one of only a handful of sandy beaches around the coast. Although Malta is surrounded by water, most beaches are just rocky outcrops, and the few beaches that do have sand are small in size compared to other parts of the Mediterranean. It’s popular with locals and tourists alike and is far enough from the more populated parts of Malta to make it a day trip destination.
I’m not normally one for swimming, so what I like about Golden Bay is it has other attractions apart from the beach itself. There are hiking tracks along the surrounding cliffs and there are two more bays, Ghajn Tuffieha and Gnejna Bay, within walking distance. It’s one of those places where you can easily spend a day and indulge in several different activities both on land and on water including paragliding, scuba diving, horse riding and nature trails.
There are several cafes and restaurants dotted around and the Radisson hotel (partly shown in the bottom right of the picture) has spectacular views from its rooms and terraces.
