Or it could be titled ‘Homage à Jim’, this may be my favorite picture of my travel pal. For some reason, he didn’t invite me on his own trips, which tended to be more athletic (like climbing Kilimanjaro) but he never failed to join me in my harebrained schemes for numerous adventures during the past decade, including 2 round-the-world trips which, alone, took 10 months.
This one was taken as our boatman tried in vain to reach home before the storm hit, which it did shortly after I took this one. Placid Inle Lake turned into a cold cauldron as the rain poured down on us and the wind blew. We hunkered beneath our umbrellas which did no good at all, simply directing the rain into rivers down our backs.
No other living person would have put up with me like Jim has and I don’t believe it would have been possible for me to experience alone many of the things we did as a team all over the world. This will likely prove to be part of the record of our last trip together, because Jim is getting married. I wish all wonderful things for him on his new adventure. I could not appreciate him more.
These, and these are the pictures I took in the hours before the one above.
