Gallery: A visit to Cuba

Beautiful, unspoiled beaches of Varadero, Cuba

Cuba is a country known for its spectacular beaches and tumultuous social political history.  Each year, the warm Caribbean climate and endless stretches of unspoiled beaches attract hundreds of thousands of Canadian vacationers and a large numbers of Europeans as well.  From the resorts in Varadero to the city of Havana, there is no shortage of things to do and see while in Cuba.

A row of coco taxis waiting to take customers on a unique ride through Havana

Wandering through the streets of Havana, it’s hard not to notice beautiful old buildings that are sadly rundown and poorly maintained — yet that are laden with history and stories.  You’ll also be amazed seeing those refurbished vintage American cars still driving on the roads, alongside funny little egg-shaped vehicles known as “coco taxis.”  I like the Cuban people, they are good natured and polite, despite the severe shortage of everyday goods (partially due to embargo? government mismanagement?), they are still calm and have good attitude towards life.

You can see the legends for the following photos by rolling your mouse over them, or by enlarging the thumbnail photos at the bottom of the post.

Visitors can also see the giant likenesses of revolutionary hero Che Guevara on major structures in the city

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
