Where in the World is TravelGumbo? (#39)

 WITW(39)

Gumbo had fun with last week’s puzzle, which featured a railroad station…so he thought: Why not a train, this time? And since the last one was in England, why not try back in the U.S.A.? (sorry, John Lennon…) So, here’s Puzzle #39, and good luck to you all!

THE RULES

  1. Share your suggestions, hints and discussions with others by posting them here as comments…
  2. If you absolutely know where it is….please give others a couple of days to work on it before you pounce. If the answer is burning your fingers, e-mail it to [email protected] and we’ll publish it Saturday night…right or wrong!
  3. To post here, you need to be  a member…but that’s free and easy.  Just click HERE

So, exactly where is Gumbo today?

The photo looks too idealized — almost not real.

Is it perhaps something from the land of Thomas Kinkade?  Or a model train set?

I know it says Union Pacific, so might this be a west coast picture?

Could be the Pacific, Jonathan.  Could be just about anywhere!

Toy Train

(anywhere fine toys are sold, that is!)  Or am I just imagining all this?!?

Reminds me of the words from “Penny Lane” ( Beatles )

“It’s a clean machine”

Ah ha! Either an interesting camera technique or it is indeed a wonderfully detailed model train set, I suspect the latter. Oh, but where?? There are many big boys out there in the world who would love to have a Union Pacific loco running around in the loft. I have seen reports of some fantastic layouts in Germany but it could be anywhere methinks….

I tried to take a photo of just such a loco coming towards me in Canada and stood by the track in readiness. Thinking to be friendly, I was just pressing the shutter and gave a wave to the driver. Clearly being equally friendly, the driver gave me a blast on his massive air horns which virtually blew me away!! The resulting photo was all blurr and mainly sky…

Just because we’re suspicious doesn’t mean you’re not out to get us!!!!

Right, time to stick my neck out (again…). I’m going for the picture being part of the world’s biggest miniature railroad layout located in Nothlandz, Flemington, New Jersey. I have seen write ups for a large German layout but I think it is nowhere near as big or as complete as this! There PH! Shoot me down my friend!!

PHeymont can be such a tease at times…

I’ll go out on the limb and suggest these are the “truths”

1)  It is a model train set — very nicely done, by the way

2)  It is in a formal display somewhere.  Mac said “I have seen reports of some fantastic layouts in Germany”.  A model trail museum in Europe, possibly Germany?

Anyone else have any ideas?

Gumbo's Pic of the Day

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
