What can’t you live without on a plane flight?

I’ve noted that travelers seem to vary as much in what they do during a flight as with everything else in life.  Some are glued to videos on their backseat monitors or ipads.  Others love to read their kindles or — in a throwback to the good old days — real printed books and magazines.  Some seem to need certain headphones or articles of clothing, etc.

I’m kind of curious about what the TravelGumbo community can’t live without on a plane flight.

For me, it’s recorded books.  Formerly filling my iPod but now on my smart phone, I love to sit back and be entertained with the spoken word.  And I like an ExOfficio shirt with 2 pockets (one for passport, tickets etc and one for my smartphone).

What about you?  What indulgence makes a flight that much better?

My kindle, and the knowledge that I have a bag of dried fruit and nuts in my bag for emergencies. The emergencies happen so seldom that the current bag has made 3 transatlaantic trips since I gave away the previous one to a friend who was headed for the airport…

Haven’t had a problem with it. These are the kind of bags you buy at airport newstands at extraordinary prices, or in supermarkets for a lot less. It’s possible that someone may have a rule, but since no one has ever asked or warned (except the U.S.)….

Having been the recipient of one of PHeymont’s emergency bags of dried fruits and nuts,I can assure everyone I ate it on my trip! Running out of stuff happens a little more frequently to me on trips!

I always like to bring my travel notes  for the plane ride to review my trip . My notes  used to be a guidebook, but I have been printing out forums and blogs now I tend to read the guidebooks long before I go .

On my next trip I’m going to save some TG blogs on my tablet !
