Visitors on the campus of Barcelona’s pioneering Sant Pau Hospital, built at the turn of the 20th century under the direction of architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner, who worked to make the hospital not only beautiful, but functional and safe from infection. For more details, see our blog Barcelona’s “Other Architect.“
Today, the hospital has moved into new buildings on an adjoining site, and the old campus, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is being turned into a center for cultural, educational and health-related organizations, as well as performance venues.
