I hope Airfarewatchdog publishes a fun list for the TSA screeners on what not to say to us. Sometimes ,when i opt out, the screeners act like it’s first time somebody chose to that.Other times ,I feel like they are trying to sell me a timeshare to get me to use the scanner.
My biggest issue though when I opt out is my carry- on luggage goes through security while I’m waiting for the patdown on the other side. And from the other side you cant see whats happening to your bag.
I opted out at JFK once and it took 30 minutes to wait for the patdown. When the patdown was over and I was finally allowed to get my bag, they asked why i didn’t pick up my carry-on sooner. I explained that I was waiting for the patdown and wasn’t allowed to get my bag until it was finished. That didn’t matter though and because my bag sat there for so long it had to go through additional security.
This makes me groan. We finally got TSA PreCheck, and in New Orleans this is worth the price. We sail right through security without taking anything out of our bags and without taking off shoes or belts. I had to bring through medications that could not go through the scanners, but that hand check was swift.
This might not be the case at JFK, PHL, or at DFW.
I’d love to be the “Mystery Shopper” when travelling through security. Some Airports are so welcoming and respectful. Others are just so rude and awkward because they can be. And the power kick feeds their ego. Both do the same job.
To be able to pull a higher level TSA ID Card and tell someone ” Go and see the company Psychiatrist !”
This really fits in the category of what not to say. A prominent Venezuelan neurosurgeon was fined nearly $90,000 for joking he had explosives in his bag in Miami
