Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, July 17th, 2014:Boeing Dreamliner

CIMG0005

I’ve just had 2 flights on the Dreamliner and it’s a vast improvement on what we’ve all been used to. After a 12 hour flight it wasn’t an ordeal as I expected. The entertainment screen was full of tricks. You can connect your USB stick and watch your own choice or there’s hours of games, video and music available. You can stop, rewind and pause all the films and go back to where you fell asleep!

The first thing you notice is how much quieter the Dreamliner is. When you’re about to take off there’s no rattle from the overhead storage, the wall panels or window shutters ! You don’t feel the thud of the wheels before you lift off. All gone.

So what’s new inside !

Your new shape window has no screen to pull down. Below the window is a control button you just touch to lighten or darken the glass. From clear to a dark blue. I missed my favourite view of the sunrise, above the clouds, as the captain sets all the windows to dark at 3.30am to stop everyone getting woke up!

The overhead storage lockers have almost doubled their capacity. Great if you’re just travelling with hand luggage. The reading light above you is brighter and focus is better. Good air flow. Your own headphones (3.5mm) plug into the armrest with no adapters !

The overhead lighting is all new. The blue of the ceiling and the pink over the windows are all changeable. The Captain will give a demonstration of all the colours available while you’re waiting to taxi to your take off slot. He has every colour of the rainbow to choose from. He can make all the colours pass you at speed, changing every second. Like take off on a “Roller Coaster” ride.

A comfortable, enjoyable journey !

Thanks for the report! Ive been waiting to hear about it from somebody I know!

How about the wings? Can you see the difference from the inside of the cabin in movement?

I was also fascinated by this piece.  I’ve wanted to fly the Dreamliner for sometime but have yet to have the opportunity.

Glad you enjoyed the experience.
