Leadville, Colorado is a fascinating small city to visit. Situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 10,152 feet (3,094 m), it is the highest incorporated city in the USA. It lies near the headwaters of the great Arkansas River and is an old silver mining town. In the late 19th century it was the second largest city in Colorado, only Denver being larger; now it’s just a sleepy little place struggling to get by.
The town has a beautiful historic district and many pretty Victorian homes that were built during the mining era. While driving around its streets, I came across this unique picket fence, made entirely out of used skis. A very pragmatic use of old discarded skis and, best of all, a fence that never needs painting!
