One of the events in Paris this year commemorating the start of World War I is a series of large photographs, mounted along the Champs Elysees from the Grand Palais to Rond Point. Each features the photograph, with captions and descriptions in English and French. The exhibit calls it self “100 Photos for a Centenary.”
Although most focus on soldiers, there are a few pictures of the generals and politicians…and quite a few of civilians, including women and children at work on the war effort of suffering the effects of the war.
What was especially interesting was to realize the large number of African and North African troops who played crucial roles in the French effort, and how many workers from other countries were employed as laborers and war-work replacements.
