Chrome Sparkles at Sherborne Castle – 2

A small recap of my “No. 1” article, if I may. Each July, just for one day, the Wingfield-Digby family put on one of the best shows of automotive excellence in England that I have had the pleasure to attend. The venue is the historically highly-significant Sherborne Castle in Dorset county, England.

During the one day car show the vehicles on display are a wonderful surprise as each year as many cars come from enthusiast’s clubs as do those from ordinary folks who bring their own treasured classic car for others to enjoy. I hope that you enjoy these as much as I have from the recent car show posts that TG has kindly given us.

First off (above) is the beautiful Jaguar XJ220 world beating super car produced between 1992 and 1994 and which at the time held the speed record for the world’s fastest production super car at 213mph!

Then a Bugatti Veyron (but what is that paint finish??)

2013-3726

One of my favourites, the lovely Mercedes SL…

2013-3745

And a glistening Jaguar SS which was for sale on the day (I didn’t dare ask how much…)

2013-3749

Alongside an Aston Martin DB5

2013-3780

With a ‘brother’ 1922 1.5 litre Strasbourg GP Aston Martin race car…

2013-3781

And then one of the post-WW2 “Bubble Cars” this one made by Messerschermitt

2013-3785

And then to a nicely restored version of my own first ‘exotic’ sports car – a Datsun 240Z (I’m not sure about the colour though!)

2013-3791

And on to a pair of beautifully restored Jaguar E-types, firstly a straight 6-cylinder model

2013-3798

and then a Jaguar V12 roadster

2013-3825

2013-3826

And finally a permanent favourite of mine, the lovely Corvette Stingray….

2013-3835

Love that Messerschmitt!  I can see myself driving down I-5 in it!

I remember seeing a few of those Messerschmidts on the road in Germany in 1959-60. I was fascinated by them, the Isetta and other “near-cars.” For those of you who see the daily e-mail…that’s why this one was the feature today!

January 15, 2016: Stonehenge Summer Solstice

The sign of times soon to come! This was my first summer solstice sunrise at Stonehenge in England and I love the picture because it heralds the warm sunny days that are yet to come (please!) after the dark days of winter. The solstice sun-rises are the only occasions these days when the public are allowed to be within touching distance of the old stones that comprise ‘the Henge’.
