Chicago Fire Still Holding Up Air Traffic

Flight delays caused by a fire at a major FAA facility near Chicago have had paralyzing effects across a wide area of the country, with planes unable to use normal facilities at Chicago’s O’Hare (a hub for United and American) and Midway (a major point for Southwest).

The fire on Friday is still scrambling flights at the two airports on Monday, which of course affects flights TO or THROUGH Chicago as well as from Chicago.  It’s not clear how long the disruption will continue; FAA says it will take about 2 weeks to restore the facility, but likely flight disruptions will be minimized by using other facilities temporarily. MORE
