Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, September 30, 2014: Riding a dead horse, Prague

Good King Wenceslas, he of Christmas carol fame, is a popular figure in Czech history.   Apparently the tale of his struggling through deep snow in the 10th century to give presents to peasants is true.  He is a revered Bohemian martyr and saint.

There’s a number of pieces of Wenceslas art in Prague, the most irreverant we encountered being this one.  Situated in a small shopping mall off Wenceslas Square, we have the Good King sitting on the belly a dead horse seemingly wondering when the mount would start galloping again.  The piece is suspended from the ceiling and its quirky playfulness appealed to me.

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
