Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, October 3, 2014: Postcards from Greece – the seaman’s chapel in Naxos harbour

As the fishermen sail out of Naxos harbour in the Greek Cyclades isles and look into into the setting sun they glance over towards the simple whitewashed chapel that sits on its own small island in the middle of the passage. With hurried gestures they make their peace with their Lord as they turn to face the dangers of their next voyage…

January 15, 2016: Stonehenge Summer Solstice

The sign of times soon to come! This was my first summer solstice sunrise at Stonehenge in England and I love the picture because it heralds the warm sunny days that are yet to come (please!) after the dark days of winter. The solstice sun-rises are the only occasions these days when the public are allowed to be within touching distance of the old stones that comprise ‘the Henge’.
