Just thought I’d share my enjoyable walk for a Sunday afternoon.
This is Little Crosby Village. 8 miles north of Liverpool UK. Today.
It’s an odd sort of village. It helps if you’re Roman Catholic if you want to live there.
You’ll be vetted by the local squire before you can move into the Village.
The village character has changed little from a 17th-century description that “it had not a beggar, ..an alehouse .. or a Protestant in it…”
Miss it already! Doesn’t get any better than getting a personal tour of that area from Mr. and Mrs. GarrryRF!
Hi Rob. Even in the 1600’s this village had an expressway into the City of Liverpool.
You could gallop your horse along the beach for 8 miles .
And be in work in 20 minutes !
Takes you twice as long today in a city full of cars !
Hard to gauge the size of this village. About how long does it take you to get around (not counting the pub stops)?
DrF !!!!!
The village still has no beggars – no alehouses – no protestants !
Its only a recent decision to have electricity into the village.
You can see the village in an hour – its only small.
But you can follow the ancient footpaths through the farmland.
See the wild fox, geese and birds of prey that live there.
Or walk down to the beach.
When the tide goes out it leaves 5 miles of sand !
I’m surprised there is no ale house. Most of the catholics I have known have no objection to a pint of beer or a nip of scotch.
But it does seem to be a very pretty place to go for a walk. Thanks for sharing this with us Garry.
