The Getty Villa, Part 2: The Art

In part one of this series I gave you the background on the Getty Villa, Mr. Getty and his passion for art.  What follows are some illustrative pieces from the Villa’s collection, which focus on art from the antiquities.  There are literally thousands of exhibits to look at and study in the museum.  Also remember more modern pieces of art are housed at the nearby Getty Museum in Brentwood.

I love the jewelry for the intimacy with the wearers I imagine, and the frescos which, to me, are the most alive of all the Roman artistic expressions.  Sculpture and mosaics, to me, much less so.  I also love the key and perfume bottles, imagining the individual hands that held and used them.
