On a recent trip back home to Melbourne (Australia), we took a leisurely stroll down Swanston Street, one of the main thoroughfares in the centre of the city. I spotted this horse and carriage and tram bypassing each other and captured the moment. I just liked the way the old and the new came together showing the different forms of transport. The horse and carriage is a tourist ride of course, and there are several of these that take you on tours around the city. The trams are an iconic part of the city and have been operating continuously since the late 19th century. They are also an essential part of Melbourne’s transport network and I couldn’t imagine the city without them. I love riding them and find them not only very convenient and efficient, but also characteristic.
The second picture brings together three forms of transport, horse and carriage, yellow cab and scooter. This was taken again on Swanston Street, just outside the Melbourne Town Hall. You can choose the transport that suits you!
