After spending the last 2 weeks looking at some interesting floors, this time Gumbo is looking up at an interesting canopy. To often we fail to look up when we travel. Let’s see who has been paying attention. Where are we today?
THE RULES
- Share your suggestions, hints and discussions with others by posting them here as comments…
- If you absolutely know where it is….please give others a couple of days to work on it before you pounce. If the answer is burning your fingers, e-mail it to [email protected] and we’ll publish it Wednesday night…right or wrong!
- To post here, you need to be a member…but that’s free and easy. Just click HERE
So, exactly where is Gumbo today? Please be as specific as possible.
For sure not very old. Probably not a church, though these days….
My first thoughts were a rail or air terminal, but seeing the second
roof in the background makes me less sure of that…
A concert hall or theater?
Perhaps an entry to a ball stadium
Glad to see some more guesses. The building shown in the hint is a theater, but that is not the the main focus of Gumbo’s visit, although it is definitely cultural.
Today’s hint – This complex is often compared to another cultural center built at the same time and in a similar style, but at the opposite end of their country.
Palm trees and evergreens. Could this cultural center be in Florida and not in Australia or Spain. I have never seen it.
Let’s get some more guesses – Here is a hint and another view: While this canopy does cover a place where many people are sitting, waiting and enjoying an afternoon, it has nothing to do with travel.
Could also be in the southwest (LA, San Diego, Phoenix), although I have also never seen it.
I’ll start with some observations. Very tall roof, so much so that it must be in a place that doesn’t get much blowing snow or rain. Very modern looking, butstyle could be almost anywhere.
I like your idea of a rail terminal of some kind, PHeymont. Perhaps twin rails with a canopy on each side?
Looking more closely, and noting what seems to be a solid wall/window at the back…is this the outdoor extension of a building whose form we’re not actually seeing in the picture?
This is a difficult one, but the recent clues may help. Famous cultural centres at one end of a country with palm trees in the past few years are few. I can think of Sydney Opera House and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Maybe this building is in Southern Spain, although I don’t know where.
Congratulations to PortMorsby for correctly identifying that Gumbo was enjoying an afternoon coffee in the Cafe at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art! The full reveal will be posted tomorrow and and a new Where in the World will be here on Saturday.
Actually, I tried looking at Google Images for Los Angeles County Museum of Art…there are hundreds of images, and none of them actually looks quite like the puzzle picture. Well-puzzled, Jonathan and PortMoresby, and all the rest…
As I mentioned, it was a wild guess. I definitely would not have risked “a true daily double”, even after seeing the clue.
