Perhaps the most bizarre travel/service startup I’ve ever seen, Airpnp (will Airbnb’s lawyers show up soon?) is advertising on its web site that you can rent a pee break or a freshen-up in private homes, offices, and more, for fees ranging from $1 to $20, with various amenities included. AirBnB will never let them get away with it. Considering the service, they could have done better with a name, I think. I can come up with four or five rather quickly that I won’t bother listing.
And I’m not sure when you were last at a Starbucks, PHeymont, but I’m not sure if you can even get the tiniest cup of coffee there for $2 anymore — most tabs run in the $5 range. But that includes a comfortable place to sit and hang-out and fast free wifi, too.
I’m still uncertain whether this is a send-up or not, but fear it isn’t. The $2 figure was from jaunted.com. On the other hand, while I’m not a fan of Starbucks (cheap bitter beans), as of September 2014, the corporate standard price for a brewed coffee (small, they call it tall) was $1.75, and $1.95 for a medium (they call it grande). Here’s the sad part. When I was a kid and out and about and thirsty, I could stop at a neighborhood store and ask, and I’d get a cup of cold water from the tap. No charge. Now you have to buy the same water, filtered and bottled, for a buck or more. I’d hate to see the same thing happen to the toilet!
I’m sure for certain events it will be used ,like as they say for Mardi Gras. I guess the name they choose will give them publicity but we will see if they are allowed to keep it.
I can back up the $2 range for a standard cup of coffee at I’ve went to quite a few on my last roadtrip. I like Starbucks because you can use their relatively fast wifi while traveling and warming up and they do have some good locations.
I haven’t been to a Starbucks since moving back to Canada, where we have the excellent coffee/breakfast/lunch chain called “Tim Horton’s”. To my palate, better coffee than Starbuck’s at half the price.
I guess we’ll need to have a Gumbo convention in the Great White North sometime….

Actually, we’ve had Tim Horton here in Brooklyn for several years. And now the company belongs to Burger King, which has moved itself to Canada for tax reasons…but yes, let’s go north!
