Wait for it…Google is on the verge, apparently, of offering a ride-share app that would compete with Uber (a company it previously invested in). In the long run, Google hopes to pair it up with its longstanding driverless car research, which company officials say might be 2 to 5 years away from public use.
Uber, in the meantime, has gone on a small hiring spree in the Pittsburgh area, hiring scientists from Carnegie Mellon University to begin what is rumored to be its own driverless project.
