Expedia buys Orbitz; now it’s down to 3

Expedia has snapped up Orbitz and its subsidiary brands, including ebookers.com and CheapTickets.com. In the past year it has also acquired former main rival Travelocity.

 

Its remaining big rival is Priceline, which owns booking.com and recently added Kayak.com to its portfolio. There are a million websites out there, but nearly all seem to belong to one of these big ones, or to TripAdvisor (a former Expedia subsidiary) that’s also trying to grow.

I am going to miss an independent Orbitz. I really like Priceline and Expedia but occasionally i found a flight that was cheaper to book on Orbitz.
