Today’s puzzle photo was snapped while Gumbo was indulging in his fascination with aircraft. Gumbo’s in a cockpit, but it’s definitely not that of a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. There’s a few clues here; anyone know where this might be?
I’ll be posting additional photos as clues at a rate of about one a day assuming the puzzle doesn’t get solved quickly. They will be progressively easier and the puzzle will almost certainly be solved by the Gumbo gang, I’m sure.
THE RULES
- Share your suggestions, hints and discussions with others by posting them here as comments…
- If you absolutely know where it is….please give others a couple of days to work on it before you pounce. If the answer is burning your fingers, e-mail it to [email protected] and we’ll publish it Wednesday night…
- To post here, you need to be a member…but that’s free and easy. Just click HERE
So, exactly where is Gumbo today? Please be as specific as possible.
The control panel says its a Boeing B17 Flying Fortress.
The call sign says its N3509G.
But there are plenty of examples around the world ..
Best get to work on the clues !!
Huuum, I feel that we are getting warm palms here GarryF. Mind, spring is almost upon us finally and maybe time for you to visit Miss Angela perhaps?
From the looks of things its a fairly antiquated cockpit without any leds or other highly modern instruments. Is that true or a misinterpretation?
That is a true cockpit, as constructed, as it exists today. This plane still is airworthy.
Time for two more clues, taken at the same site.
Does that help?
From the looks of things its a fairly antiquated cockpit without any leds or other highly modern instruments. From the total lack of modern instruments and the view out the cockpit I’d have to think it that this is a museum piece and the piece of hardware is undoubtably western. I’m looking forward to both the guesses of our Gumbo seekers and what the actual answer here is (I’m in the dark)!
Well, then my much modified comment should still serve those who view it!
More clues coming, starting with one more tomorrow….
Oh but no my friend GarryRF, a real maid is never truly undone until the true nature of her flight is revealed to all!
I would love to pay the fair maiden a call Mac.
But alas, I fear, you may have courted her emotions and beat me to the post !
A wonderful man I had the privilege to meet many years ago told me a story.
He was a pilot with the Royal Air Force 1939 – 45 in WW2.
“You young people today – you talk of the stress you suffer. You stop your motor car and in the rear view mirror you see someone flashing their headlights at you. You get a stress attack and curse him. When I was a young man I suffered the same problem. The flashing lights I could see in my rear view mirror were the machine guns on the wings of a Messerschmitt trying to shoot my Spitfire out of the sky – and me with it ! Now that WAS stress ! ” I regret not stopping to listen to him for a while longer.
My Dad spent the latter years of WWII flying these as navigator & bombardier. Fortunately for us, he wasn’t sent overseas but was an instructor, teaching others who did go. He had a love of flying and aircraft of those times that he passed on to me and I get teary, as he did, seeing them and maybe even more, hearing the sound.
It is just amazing to realise that this was the real life daily view-point for a lot of very brave young men. Fascinating but also very thought provoking and sobering…
