While visiting Rome recently, one of our favorite cities anywhere, our day’s walk through the Baroque section ended by the Tiber River just as the sun was setting. We were a little lost, a state I like to be in while exploring Rome, and I was pleased to stumble on this landmark. As we wandered across the bridge just before us, our eyes were drawn to the sight dozens of others on the bridge and river banks had stopped to drink it — that of the dome of St. Peter’s, illuminated by the last light of day just as its own lights came on.
We just stopped for about 10 minutes and enjoyed the scene. One of those perfect endings to a perfect travel day.
