Growing up on an island I’ve always been fascinated with older couples who dress in their very best and take a Sunday afternoon stroll hand in hand together in quiet spaces such as a park or city square. I quite enjoyed seeing this on my travels even in bigger cities such as Madrid and Paris, sometimes it would be after the Sunday evening church service, other times just for no reason but simply to enjoy each other’s company.
Asian cultures has never allowed for such show of open affection but I couldn’t help but observe this couple in an amusement park in a rural town in Kerala, India all dressed up in their Sunday best taking a walk aroud the park. It warmed my heart to see especially in a time of fast paced living and social media addiction, these older couples no matter the culture teach us to take time out and spend with each other.
What about you? Do you observe how the older folks live on your travels?
Being half of an “Older Couple” my wife and I still walk hand in hand.
When asked why – I say my wife has to remember where we’re going.
My job is to remember the way back.
