This is the sort of headline that makes you scratch your head. Of course, no one should be allowed to dump waste on one of the world’s greatest and most endangered natural wonders.
And yet…it is not just that the Australian government has now acted to ban the dumping of waste from dredging a new coal port—it is the fact that that very government, just in the past year or two, gave the dredging company a permit to dump there, and only legal action by conservationists has convinced it to revoke the permission.
