Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in Wiltshire, England, about 2 miles (3 km) west of Amesbury and 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is the remains of a ring of standing stones set within earthworks. It is in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.
When I visited this site I wanted to capture the stones with a sort of “mystical” feel about them. At first it was a bit challenging as there were dozens of people walking around it and I also wanted to convey a sense of isolation. With travel photography it’s all about waiting for that right moment and I patiently stood my ground until there wasn’t a person in sight. My moment came and I recorded the image I was after and was very pleased with the result. I added some slight digital modifications later to create a simple and uncluttered view of this most magical location.
