Frontier Airlines, which last year joined Spirit and Allegiant in the ULCC (ultra-low-cost-carrier) class that seems to mean ULC (ultra lots of charges) for most folks, is raising its fees for checked bags. The only checked bags that will not go up by $5 to $10 are those ordered and paid for while booking a ticket on the airline’s web site.
If you check your bag while checking in online, the fee goes from $20 to $25, and at the airport from $25 to $30. Check it last-minute at the gate and it will cost $60! That’s often enough to cancel the low-cost fare as a saving…especially if you have a credit card that gets your first bag on-board free with one of the legacy carriers.
Fees for carry-on bags—yes, the ULCCs charge for that, too—won’t change just now, but at $30 for any bag that doesn’t fit under the seat…well, it just piles on. DETAILS from USA Today.
