Icon Q has come out with the Q5.5 Smartphone for $199. Why it’s so useful for travelers is because it’s unlocked and has two SIM card slots. One slot is for the US,the other slot is interchangeable for whichever country you are in. You leave your home SIM in, and just replace the travel SIM slot with a local card when you travel. It also has a good camera with 13 megapixels on the back side and 5 megapixels on the screen side.

A great step in the right direction…but I’m going to wait for the next step first.
I’m a T-mobile subscriber, and have free data roaming in 120 countries (why I switched to them) but also take along an older phone that gets a local SIM with no data, but cheap calls within the country I’m visiting. This phone would get me down to one phone…but it would also require me to give up 4G data at home in the U.S.!
Maybe their next model will allow 4G service on both SIMs…when that happens, they have me!
