SKY2BUY takes a swing at SkyMall’s old audience

With SkyMall out of the sky and its name sold in bankruptcy court, the way is open for others to try selling to passengers inflight (SkyMall had exclusive deals with the airlines), and SKY2BUY, owned by an investment capital firm and ScotteVest, a former SkyMall advertiser, plans to try.

Rather than a standalone catalog, SKY2BUY plans to cut deals with airlines to publish their ad catalog as a section in existing airline magazines, with the magazine’s lifestyle articles drawing readers to the merchandise ads. The company will also offer discounts to buyers while they are in airports or planes, or within 24 hours after landing.
