Delta and Aeromexico, already alliance partners, are asking the two governments for antitrust immunity to form a joint venture allowing them to coordinate schedules, fares and routes between the U.S. and Mexico.
It would be similar to the joint ventures on trans-Atlantic routes between American and British Air, and between Delta and Virgin Atlantic.
The Aeromexico/Delta lashup would include creating hubs in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara. Aeromexico would gain much greater access to U.S. cities for its customers, and Delta would finesse its problem of being the only major U.S. airline without a Texas hub.
