Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, Apr 21, 2015: Cefalu, Sicily

Cefalu Town

I’m a sucker for a picture-postcard location, and the town of Cefalu on the northern coast of Sicily is no exception. A comune in the Province of Palermo on the Tyrrhenian Sea, it’s about 70 kilometres (43 mi) east of the provincial capital and 185 kilometres (115 mi) west of Messina. With its winding streets and alleyways, sea front promenade and a history that dates back to 396 B.C., there is delight here for every visitor, especially for the photographer.

The highlight for me was the Rocca del Cefalu or “The Rock“, a 270 meter high piece of granite that dominates the skyline behind the town centre. I climbed the walking path leading up to top of The Rock to take this panoramic view of the town, and it was certainly worth it. The Rock can be seen in the picture below dominating the Piazza Del Duomo.
