Chicago set to open new rail-line park

Chicago will open its new Bloomingdale Trail, a park built on 2.7 miles of abandoned railway on June 6. That’s 6/06 if you write it a different way, and 606 is both the root of Chicago area codes, and the name of an overall park project (the606) that Bloomingdale’s a part of.

Plans for the park, which joins Paris’ Promenade PlantÉe and New York’s High Line in recycling old rail lines, started with the Logan Park neighborhood, which had the city’s lowest ratio of park to people. The Bloomingdale plan eventually grew to six parks, linked by the trail.

More information, including schedules for opening events and ongoing resources can be found at the park’s website, the606.org
