Sometimes numbers get so big they’re hard to visualize or believe, and here’s one of those numbers:
During the first three months of 2015, booking.com handled 106,400,000 hotel room nights. That’s right…over 100 million. Previous record, in 3rd Q 2014, was 98.4 million.
Booking.com, owned by Priceline, seems to be on a continued growth spurt, despite losing some concession from hotels that regulators made them give up. The number of properties booking.com takes reservations for grew to 635,000, up 40% in a year.
The competition isn’t tiny either, but booking.com is clearly the 800-pound canary at the moment. Expedia’s hotel booking business is growing rapidly, too, but its 47.6 million nights is less than half booking.com’s total. Expedia books for 510,000 hotels and other venues.
