But does it have WiFi?
A new survey tells us that WiFi is holding its place as the #1 desired hotel amenity—but not as many people listed it as #1 as last year. Breakfast held #2. And almost nobody cares about the mini-bar with its overpriced offerings. The survey, sponsored by hotels.com, drew responses from 4700 travelers from 28 countries.
Here are some highlights from the survey.
- For leisure stays, the free WiFi finished at 30%, just ahead of breakfast. Last year, it was cited by 34%
- Business travelers picked free WiFi (50% down from 56).
- 60% picked WiFi as the amenity they’d like to see become standard at all hotels (down from 66). Number 2 in this category was free bottled water in rooms.
If you’re wondering why the drop in WiFi interest, think about the spread of more generous data plans and the increase in public hot-spots. It’s surely not because people are using the Web or social media less!
About that breakfast: Here’s what we want.
- Most desired items are fresh fruit and hot beverages
- Next favorite, meat and eggs
- And then bread/toast and a good juice selection (what! no waffles?)
The other food item we seem to want is a high-end coffee machine in the room. And as for the minibar? Most travelers seem to just leave it alone…it was on the list of unused amenities right up there with bathroom phones.
