Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, May 16, 2015: Coffee & Dessert in North Beach

NBeach1

March 13, 2015

Getting organized to spend the day in San Francisco, I skipped coffee in the morning in favor of a mug of tea I made for myself in the kitchen of the hostel at Fort Mason.  I spent much of the day with my pal, Deb, walking and talking and stopping for pictures.  When Deb left me in Chinatown, heading back to serve her passengers who ride the bus across the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, I continued along Stockton Street, crossed Broadway and remembered the coffee I hadn’t had.  I was approaching North Beach, hung a left on Columbus, and turned into La Boulange.

A leisurely bowl of coffee, an almond croissant to keep it company, and I was off again, took a turn around Washington Square Park, a nice place to be on a Friday afternoon, found the bus shelter where I’d caught the 30 bus on another occasion, and made my way back to Fort Mason for a rest and to think about how especially glad I was to be in the city of my birth on my birthday.

Had I know such a good-looking almond croissant was at stake, I would have flown to SF to help you celebrate your natal day, PM!

Belated happy birthday, and thanks for sharing this trip with us.

Precisely.  But I am also easily distracted in a bakery such as this, so I might just let that almond croissant slide by as I reach for a slice of black forest cake!

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
