This month marks the 80th anniversary of what is surely the world’s most elaborate subway system, and one of the largest. Moscow is celebrating with a parade of trains, from the newest to historic reconstructions, making special trips on the lines.
Moscow’s subway, whose first sections opened in the 1930s, was a tremendous source of pride for the then-socialist Soviet Union, and the stations were all very individual and very ornate, with art in many styles…not only socialist realism!
